The straps are wider, smoother, and more pliable, which makes them more breathable and less likely to cause chafing. While the Compact 3 is a bit lighter and can extend longer, the Compact 4 collapses smaller, making it a good alternative for those who plan to travel with their poles inside their backpack or luggage. Both feature replaceable carbide tips for traction on dirt trails and textured rubber tip covers for use on rock or other slippery hard surfaces. Along with the included baskets, the poles can accommodate press-fit baskets from other brands. The larger baskets are well suited for use on sand, mud, and snowy passes.
