Frequently Asked Questions

What is the blade length of the Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto?

The Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto has a 3.50" tanto blade and a 7.75" overall length when open, with a 4.25" handle. It weighs about 6 oz.

What is Chaves Knives Blue Label?

Blue Label is Chaves Knives' line built to bring high-quality materials at a more affordable price — knives meant to be used hard every day. The Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto uses the same Chaves designs with ELMAX steel, black Micarta scales and a liner lock in place of titanium frame lock construction.

What steel does the Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto use?

The Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto uses ELMAX, a Böhler-Uddeholm powder-metallurgy stainless steel with very good edge retention and corrosion resistance that is still reasonable to sharpen. It is a premium steel for a knife at the Blue Label price point.

What is a tanto blade?

A tanto blade has a reinforced, angular point with a secondary edge leading into the main edge. The thick tip resists breaking during piercing, and the straight primary edge excels at push cuts. The Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto uses a 3.50" tanto blade.

What is the difference between the Liberation Street and the Liberation 229?

The two are the same Chaves design in different sizes. The Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street has a 3.50" blade, 4.25" handle and 7.75" overall length; the Blue Label Liberation 229 has a 3.50" blade, 4.50" handle and 8.00" overall length. In Chaves' lineup, "229" is the larger size and "Street" is the more compact everyday-carry size.

Can you change the scales on the Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto?

Yes — the Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto is designed for swappable scales. Remove every screw except the pivot to take off the black Micarta scales and install a new pair. The backspacer can also be rotated 180 degrees to use it as a lanyard hole.

What lock does the Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto use?

The Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto uses a liner lock: a spring section of the steel liner moves behind the blade tang when the knife opens, holding the blade in place. Push the liner to the side with your thumb to close it. The knife opens with a flipper tab.

Where can I buy the Chaves Knives Blue Label Liberation Street Satin Stonewash Tanto?
