About The Gravity Bag

The Gravity Bag

Just as much fun as a bag of pennies, only more expensive! The aptly named Gravity Bag was designed as an insert for your Slack Sack, transforming the simple bag to a flow prop and potentially even a piece of training equipment. Eyeing the rise of flow-related fitness equipment, we developed the minimalist Slack Sacks with a view to offering some of the benefits of mace and kettle bell juggling, without the concussions and broken toes threatened by the latter in particular. You can throw the Gravity Bag up and it will come down, we haven't had much success with the other way around.

When we first launched the Slack Sacks, we offered them principally as an easy carry stuff sack. But, simultaneously, we quietly advocated for folks to repurpose their collections of our begleri bags, by stuffing them with pennies (which are now worth roughly just their weight in copper), and throwing them inside their new Slack Sacks to create a nice set of poi (at lighter weights) or softer version of a kettlebell (at heavier weights). It was part of the plan all along to created weighted bags filled with stainless steel pellets, that could stand in as a more "official" feeling version of the old bag-o-pennies, and it has taken us this long to do the job.

The Gravity Bags weigh around 500g each, and are built from stout cotton canvas, with reinforced stitching, and a fitting Aroundsquare logo that references Da Vinci's famous Vitruvian Man.

Once you get it swinging, a single Gravity Bag is heftier than one might think, and even one Gravity Bag per Slack Sack makes for a relatively slow and heavy set of poi. The slack sacks are not the optimized form of this art, but they are workable, and it's a fun way to get some movement in with a bit of resistance. Maybe develop a few muscles outside of your fingers. If you just want to experiment first to see what you think of swinging poi, stick a couple tennis balls in the toes of a pair of socks, and you're off to the races. Or don't, we don't judge.

For those wanting more weight for mace and kettle bell style movements, multiple Gravity Bags will be necessary. Costs will add up, despite our best efforts to keep these as accessible as possible. So for those of you wanting to explore this idea before committing, refer back to the idea of stuffing pennies in old begleri bags to get an idea of how much weight you like, and how much this game is worth to you.

Both the Gravity bags and our Slack Sacks (sold separately) will be on launch pricing during drop weekend.
