The Nian Qi MKUltras take their name from the Chinese terms for thought (nian) and breath or energy (qi), reflecting the connection between mindful focus and physical interaction that sits at the heart of mala practice. That philosophy carries naturally into the MKUltras platform, where versatility and tactile engagement are central to the experience.

Available in both short and long form configurations, the Nian Qi setups are offered in three carefully selected natural materials: Tagua nut, Kuka (Coquilla), and yak horn.

Tagua nut, often referred to as vegetable ivory, features a naturally white tone and exceptional durability, making it a robust natural alternative to similar seed-based materials. Kuka (Coquilla) has a warm tan-brown coloration with subtle grain variation that gradually deepens and darkens through use, developing additional character over time. Yak horn ranges from deep black and dark grey to lighter natural highlights in shades of brown and ivory, giving each piece a unique organic appearance.

All three materials are notably hard-wearing, though as natural materials they benefit from occasional care. Avoid prolonged exposure to water or washing, and periodically apply a small amount of vegetable or wood conditioning oil to maintain their finish and resilience.

Each setup is strung on our 2mm Kevlar cord and built around the Nian Qi bead profile, which measures approximately 8mm x 8mm. While similar in scale to the Nano beads, the Nian Qi shape features a distinct contour and rounding that creates a different visual and tactile character, especially when manipulated.
