The Lil' Dipper is here! A multi-sided dip nib with a dramatic range of line widths, from a delicate fine to a broad, expressive stroke. This nib operates via dipping into ink, not via cartridge or converter. Screw the nib into any of your Schon DSGN pens and dip it into some ink and go to town! It is great for swatching, sketching and drawing. The nib is sold as a standalone unit without a pen.
Specs/Installation - Our dip nib is made from aluminum and has threads compatible with our Jowo #6 fountain pen sections found in our P6, Full sized and Engineered Plastics fountain pens. The nib threads in just like a normal Jowo #6 or a Monoc nib. Many pens from other brands that use a Jowo #6 will also fit this nib, but we cannot guarantee fitment outside our own pens. Our inkball grips will not fit this nib, they must be paired with a fountain pen grip.
Inking/Dipping - A half dip is enough for some sketching, while a full dip is better for big swatches. Leave the Lil' Dipper extra drippy and wet for swatching and big inky experiences, or wipe or blot it for finer linewidths.
Use/Sketching/Swatching - The Lil' Dipper has a slit like a fountain pen nib that must be aligned with the paper when writing. There are 3 distinct ways to use it each with their own writing characteristics. On the curved or "blade" side, a higher upright angle will give you the finest line weight and a lower angle will give you broad expressive side strokes. The flat or "chisel" side will give you huge horizontal strokes and narrower vertical lines when aligned to the sweet spot of the flat.
Cleaning/Storage - Be sure to clean the nib thoroughly with water and then dry after use to prevent corrosion (some inks can corrode this nib if left inky, and dried ink can clog the slit and fins). Be sure that you are only dipping a clean nib into your ink. Some staining of the nib may occur over time and is completely normal.
Adjusting the slit/tip - There is a screw that can be used to adjust the slit width at the tip of the nib. We pre-set it in our workshop so user adjustment isn't necessary, but we are here to educate you on what it does. A loupe or magnification is essential for fine adjustments. Any adjustment with the screw will make a big difference in functionality, so if you need a slightly finer line at the high writing angle a 5 degree rotation (clockwise) on the screw will be enough. If you wish for bolder lines up top you can turn it counterclockwise 5 degrees. If the nib gets dropped the screw can be used for during repair by our team. Over tightening the screw will damage or potentially ruin the nib, so please don't do that.
