Hog House Honeycomb: Serial No. 446 in Blue Anodized Titanium
This Bladeshow West 2026 acquisition from Hog House Knives shows why they are sometimes referred to as the Koenig of Finland. Put a jewelers loupe on the handle of this Hog House Honeycomb and you’ll see the pattern keeps going. Each hexagon is a raised flat, and inside every one of those flats runs a set of fine directional milling lines. The recessed channels between them hold the blue anodizing. The high points do not.
That is the whole trick. One surface, two tones, and none of it applied as a coating. The colour sits in the valleys because Hog House cuts the peaks back afterward.
Serial 446 left the shop in April 2026. Tapio Syrjälä and Viljami Salonen both signed the certificate that came with it.
A Certified Master Bladesmith and a Trained Goldsmith
Two men build every Hog House knife, and they arrived from opposite directions.
Tapio Syrjälä made his first knife in 2014, starting where Finnish makers start, with the puukko. In 2018 he earned the title Puukkoseppämestari, Master Bladesmith, certified by the Finnish National Agency for Education. It is one of the highest formal credentials in Nordic bladesmithing. He also forges his own stainless Damascus and titanium mokume.
Viljami Salonen came at it sideways. He began serious metalwork in 2010 after his military service, first on kitchen knives and puukkos. Then Damascus and mokume-gane pulled him toward jewelry, so he enrolled in jewelry school and graduated a trained goldsmith.
Look at the honeycomb again with that in mind. A goldsmith’s tolerances explain why the cells line up the way they do. Our gunmetal Model T Gen 2 tells the rest of the Hog House origin story, including the CNC mill they bought before either of them knew how to run one.
Hog House Honeycomb Milling, Cell by Cell
Hog House machines nearly every part of this knife in Loimaa, Finland. Handles, blade, pivot, clip, backspacer and even the bearing cages come off their own mill. They buy in the M2.5 screw blanks and almost nothing else.
The frame is CNC-machined titanium, relieved internally with milled pockets so the knife lands at 3.17 ounces. The pocket clip is 3D-milled from titanium and carries the same longitudinal lines as the blade, which is the kind of detail nobody asks for. For another study in milled titanium, see the Ferrum Forge and Gavko Spinner.
Both pivot faces got their own treatment. The show side carries a titanium collar engraved with the Hog House emblem. The lock side takes a slotted adjustment head instead, which is why the kit ships with a bronze driver bit cut to fit it.
Hog House Honeycomb Blade: RWL-34 at 62 HRC
RWL-34 is a Swedish powder stainless, and Hog House runs it at roughly 62 HRC. That is hard for a stainless and it holds a fine edge accordingly. Our Tuch Knives Umpqua runs the same steel.
The finish is where it gets unusual. Fine longitudinal milling runs the length of the flats, then steps down to a bright-blasted primary bevel. A milled fuller sits along the spine with concentric ridges cut inside it. That fuller is not decoration. You can reverse-flick the blade open off it, or use the low-profile flipper tab.
Underneath, the blade rides ceramic bearings in cages the makers cut themselves, with a ceramic detent ball. The titanium frame lock carries a hardened steel insert.

Video Description: Finnish Precision Personified
This new Hog House Honeycomb is a Model T Gen 2, serial 446, built in Loimaa, Finland in April 2026. The blade is RWL-34 powder stainless at roughly 62 HRC, ground as a drop point at 3.44 inches. Fine longitudinal milling covers the flats, then steps down to a bright-blasted bevel. A milled fuller runs the spine with ridges cut inside it.
The titanium frame carries the Honeycomb pattern, with directional milling inside each raised hexagon and blue anodizing in the recessed channels. It rides ceramic bearings in in-house cages. A titanium frame lock with a hardened steel insert holds it open. It runs 8.07 inches open, 4.56 closed, and 3.17 ounces. Both makers signed the certificate.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the two-tone honeycomb made?
Hog House anodizes the milled titanium blue, then cuts the top of each hexagon back. So the colour stays in the recessed channels while the high flats return to bare titanium. Nothing sits on the surface to rub off. The mill creates that finish rather than a coating.
Is the blade blue as well?
No. The blade shows bright-blasted and satin-finished RWL-34, with no coating at all. It picks up blue in photographs because it reflects the anodized handle and whatever it is resting on. In hand it reads as clean steel.
What are the two driver bits for?
The slotted Wera bit fits the body screws. Hog House machined the bronze bit specifically for the slotted pivot adjustment head, because a steel bit would mark it. Hog House includes both, along with two spare titanium body screws.
How does the fuller open the knife?
The fuller runs through both sides of the blade, so a thumb or finger catches the ridges inside it. You can reverse-flick the blade open that way instead of using the flipper tab. Consequently the knife opens two different ways.
How does this differ from the Gen 1 Model T?
Hog House rebuilt it on collector feedback. The Gen 1 measured 7.74 inches at 2.9 ounces. The Gen 2 runs slightly longer and taller in the hand, on thinner blade stock, which sharpens the slicing geometry. Our guide to choosing a custom knife covers why that matters.
Does We Buy Knife Collections actively support the broader knife enthusiast community?
Yes. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, We Buy Knife Collections is a curator and purveyor of fine custom made folding and fixed-blade knives. We are dedicated to the high-end custom knife community and we support knife rights advocacy.
Following our commitment upgrade in April 2026, we are proud to hold an AKTI Premier Membership, supporting the American Knife & Tool Institute’s vital advocacy and lobbying for knife owners, makers, and the future of the industry.
