CHOP Tanto 2415-GR Japanese Samurai short sword with hand-polished edge

NORTH MOUNTAIN BLADE — CHOP Tanto

The Soul of the Tanto, Reimagined for the Modern Era.

In the tradition of Japanese swords, four iconic types stand out:

• Katana: The long sword, the very symbol of the samurai, carried into battle.

• Wakizashi: A medium-length companion blade, paired with the katana as the Daishō (the “big-little” set), representing a warrior’s social status and identity.

• Tanto: A short blade (typically 15–30cm), compact and versatile, perfect for self-defense and close combat.

• Kwaiken: An even smaller concealed knife, often carried in sleeves or by women for self-protection.

The Role of the Tanto in History

• Everyday Defense: A personal blade, always kept close at hand.

• Combat Precision: Ideal for targeting the gaps between armor plates.

• Cultural Symbol: Beyond its practical use, the tanto embodied the honor, loyalty, and dignity of the samurai.
