The Oris Star Edition is the brand celebrating the watch that changed Swiss law. In 1965, Oris successfully lobbied to reverse a Swiss regulation that restricted watchmakers from using lever escapements — a limitation that had effectively frozen the industry's mechanical development for decades. With that law gone, Oris introduced its first lever escapement watch the following year and called it the Star. Sixty years later, the Oris Star Edition reissues that same barrel-shaped case in 35mm stainless steel with a plexi domed crystal, grey dial, and retro detailing that is faithful to the original.
The 35mm multi-piece stainless steel case is compact and well proportioned — the barrel shape sits differently on the wrist than a round case, closer to the skin and more architectural in profile. The plexi domed crystal adds height and vintage warmth that sapphire at this size simply doesn't replicate, and it catches light in the way that defines how a 1960s watch is supposed to look. The grey dial is restrained with applied indices, dauphine hands, and a date window. The watch ships on a leather strap with a 17mm lug width and a stainless steel buckle, with special engravings on the screwed caseback marking the anniversary. Water resistance is 5 bar — which is appropriate for daily wear.
Inside beats the Oris Calibre 733-1 — an automatic beating at 28,800 A/h (4Hz) with a 41-hour power reserve, date function with instantaneous date jump, and hacking seconds for precise synchronization. The 25.6mm diameter movement fills the 35mm case correctly. Finally, the Star Edition is backed with a standard two-year warranty, extendable to three when you join myoris.com
